The last year has been one of change and challenge both for the Foundation and me personally. The role of Executive Director has transitioned from Howard Nochumson to Catherine Kapella, MPH. Howard’s many accomplishments have been highlighted in the summary of his work as the founding Executive Director over a 36 year span.
I need to thank Howard for his guidance as I transitioned from Board Member to Chair of the Grant Committee and now as Board Chair. Also guiding me was my mentor, practice partner and friend, Dr. Angelo Creticos. Although I was not a member of the original Board as member of the Medical Staff at Henrotin Hospital, I witnessed the “birth” of the Foundation and its growth into a significant part of the Chicago area philanthropy community. It’s been my privilege to lead the Foundation’s Board as we begin our work with Catherine in the leadership role. Her long experience with the Foundation and expertise in utilizing advances in technology such as “cloud” based resources have helped to stream line the grant making process from application to completion.
Early in 2022, I was diagnosed with a very serious medical condition requiring weeks of hospitalization followed by ongoing outpatient therapies. I am grateful to be in stable health and enjoying a good quality of life – thanks to expert medical care, cutting edge research and especially the support of my family and friends.
